The Canterbury Women’s Legal Association is pleased to announce its 2023 Professional Women’s Conference “Your Toolbox For Success” scheduled for Thursday, 24 August 2023 at the Christchurch Town Hall.
This year we bring you a fantastic line up of expert speakers, including Frances Cook, James Laughlin and Dr Sarah Anticich. Additionally, we are pleased to confirm that this year we have a formidable panel of legal professionals who will provide us with their insight into different areas of the legal profession, their experiences, and a Q&A session: Judge Milroy, Vivienne Wilson and Stephanie Grieve KC.
The day will begin with registrations and morning tea at 10.30am and conclude with Canapes and Drinks at 5pm.

The Canterbury Women's Legal Association invites its members to attend a Lunch and Learn session with Adrienne Paul - law lecturer at the University of Canterbury.
Please join us for this event on Thursday 11 March 2021, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at the Buddle Findlay offices in Christchurch.
Adrienne will cover Te Ao Māori & Tikanga Māori, the role of Tikanga Māori in the law and provide examples of Tikanga Māori in the legal system.

We understand that our members may have had changes proposed to their employment terms and conditions arising out of Covid-19. If you would like a sounding board about any proposal that affects you, then we have a panel of senior female employment practitioners who you are able to speak to in the first instance. Please email canterburywla@gmail.com with the subject “Employment Panel of Friends" and we will provide the names of practitioners who are available to speak to you on an informal and confidential basis. It is not intended that the initial advice given would be a formal engagement but you may be able to make those arrangements independently with a panel of friends member.
CWLA understands that Covid-19 may have caused a loss of financial security for some of our members. CWLA is committed to providing support and has allocated funds to provide limited assistance to those members who have been financially impacted as a direct result of Covid-19.
For example, it could be that you are experiencing:
reduced hours or complete loss of work;
loss of financial support by your employer to travel to and/or attend training and education courses;
inability to pay utility bills, accommodation costs or cover grocery expenses as a result of reduced hours of work;
inability to pay for practicing certificate fees practicing;
inability to pay CWLA membership fees; and or
the need for professional CV preparation or career planning assistance.
To be eligible for a grant from the CWLA Covid-19 Assistance Fund, you need:
to hold a current practicing certificate;
be a member of CWLA; and
be directly affected by Covid-19.
To apply for a grant, please email canterburywla@gmail.com with the subject “CWLA Covid-19 Assistance Fund” and specify the amount of financial assistance you are applying for along with accompanying reasons. Each application will be assessed by the CWLA Committee and the CWLA Treasurer at their sole discretion.

Please join us for this event on Wednesday 4 March 2020, from 1:00pm - 2:00pm at the Wynn Williams offices in Christchurch.
Coroner Tutton will cover topics such as her career path so far, how she has made it work as a single parent and what her current role as a Coroner involves.
A free lunch will also be provided. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements.
